Testimonials:

Sandy, Introduction to Jewellery Making, Spring 2013: This class is an excellent environment for learning, the class sizes are small & you get a huge amount of one-to-one tutoring with Bernard.

Amy, Introduction to Jewellery Making, Spring 2013: Very interesting & I learned a lot. I really enjoyed it. Very happy with my final piece.

Gareth, Introduction to Jewellery Making, Spring 2013: Great course for 'hands on' people. Everything you need to know, taught & explained in the order you need.

Claire, Intro to Jewellery Making, Spring 2013: In depth explanations at an easy to understand level & pace.

Kay, Intro to Jewellery Making, Spring 2013: I feel I have been really lucky to have been to this workshop. Bernard has been helpful and encouraging. Its easy to feel lost in a bigger group when everyone else seems to know what they're doing. I have benefited so much from a couple of weeks with an expert in this field. I would say if you are thinking about this course don't hesitate. You won't regret it.

Lindsey, Day Taster 2 Feb 2013: "Been on many courses but this was by far the most informative and rewarding experience, and actually making some items to take away, a real bonus. Cannot recommend this 'taster' too highly and makes me eager to continue on to the 6 week course"

Lizzie, Day Taster 28 July 2012: "Learnt more in a day at JWL than in a term of evening classes elsewhere"

COURSES

We offer a range of courses for beginners and more experienced jewellers.

How will I be taught?

Largely through examples of work, demonstration, hand-outs & hands on practice in a friendly group environment. You can expect to be taught in a group of up to eight, with individual tuition where necessary. There will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions with lots of support available due to the excellent tutor:student ratio.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

JWL Workshop provides all the basic tools and equipment you will need for jewellery making. We also provide base materials, such as copper and brass, saw blades and solder. Other materials, such as old jewellery and found items may be brought to the lesson. In past lessons students have brought small personal mementoes, with a view to including them in their work.

There are no precious metals or stones stored at the workshop, however silver can be ordered in advance if required.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive ongoing feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. With plenty of advice and assistance as your work progresses and discussions relating to the progress you have made.

ONE DAY TASTER COURSE / SPECIAL EVENTS DAY

10:30am - 4:30pm / £60 non-members / £45 members

You will get a chance to have a go at jewellery making, learning some basic techniques. No previous experience needed.

There will be a simple technique-based project that will allow you to safely explore the main work areas and create an item such as a pendant to wear or give away as a special gift.
